Monastero Santa Maria della Consolazione

Il monastero sorge fuori dal centro abitato di Martano ed ospita dal 1926 i monaci cistercensi. Edificato nel 1686, fu abitato dai padri alcantarini fino al 1866 quando in conseguenza alle leggi italiane furono aboliti gli ordini monastici. Ciò nonostante gli alcantarini riuscirono ad assicurare una certa continuità delle funzioni fino al 1881, anno in cui l’ultimo religioso abbandonò definitivamente il monastero. Nel 1885 fu acquistato dal Comune di Martano e vi rimase di proprietà fino al 1908 anno in cui fu acquistato dai Baroni Comi di Martano e per breve tempo fu abitato dai Francescani. I Cistercensi arrivarono nel 1926 quando l’edificio divenne di Don Mauro Cassoni. Di particolare pregio, l’archivio e la biblioteca ospitano volumi di grande importanza e la liquoreria, senza dubbio molto rinomata nella zona. I liquori sono prodotti dai monaci nel monastero e degne di nota sono le loro “gocce imperiali” un vero toccasana utile contro mal di denti, indigestione e raffreddore. Oggi nel monastero ci sono delle camere dove è possibile soggiornare.

The monastery is located outside the town of Martano and since1926 the Cistercens i monkshave beenliving there. Built in 1686, it was inhabited by the Alcantarini fathers until 1866 when, as a result of Italian laws, monastic orders were abolished. Nevertheless, the Alcantarini managed to ensure a certain continuity of functions until 1881, when the last religious definitively left the monastery. In 1885 it was purchased by the Municipality of Martano and remained its property until 1908 when it was purchased by the Barons Comi di Martanoand was briefly inhabited by the Franciscans. The Cistercensarrived in 1926 when the building became by Don Mauro Cassoni. Of particularvalue, the archive and the library house volumes of greatimportance and theliqueur, undoubtedly very famous in the area. The liqueurs are produced by the monks inthe monastery and noteworthy are their "imperial drops" a real cure-all useful withtoothless toothless, indigestion and colds. Today in the monastery there are rooms where you can stay.
